Bunnell S.T.A.G.E. presents Our Town
December 9-12, 2010
The Bunnell High School Student Theater Arts Guild of Entertainment (S.T.A.G.E.) proudly presents Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize winning play, Our Town. This classic slice of Americana is a timeless drama embracing the wonders and woes of Grover’s Corners, a quintessential New England town, which is indeed our town. Wilder, the visionary playwright, sought “to find a value above all price for the smallest events in our life”; Our Town cannot help but belong to us through the universal experience of being.
Our Town captures the simultaneity of life and death, the past, present, and future; the play traces the commonplace of daily life, while bearing witness to the simple moments of grandeur in love, marriage, and even death. The Stage Manager (Ryne Pataki) unfurls the love story of Emily Webb (Samantha Carroll) and George Gibbs (Ryan Jepsen) through his own unique perspectives: an American boy in a small town high school, a college student, his graduation into adulthood, and finally, old age. The relationships of Emily’s parents, Dr. Gibbs (Collin Anderson) and Mrs. Gibbs (Erin Williams), along with George’s parents, Mr. Webb (Joey Welch) and Mrs. Webb (Mia Gaspar), further examine the complexities of love within the construct of marriage and of society.
The S.T.A.G.E. production of Our Town is directed by Meghann England and Chriselle Almeida. Almeida is a professional actor and first time director of high school students in a theatre production. She lent her creativity and expertise to produce a colorful depiction of the text, incorporating the ancient Suzuki acting technique, one that is rooted in Japanese theatre, and martial arts. Suzuki is artfully used on stage and inspires theatre students to find strength in the body and subsequently through the mind. The cast of 31 includes grades 9-12, and is aided by a stalwart crew, the S.T.A.G.E. network of students, parents, administrators, and teachers who infallibly make each production possible, with the dedication of their time and resources.
The production opens on Thursday, December 9th @ 7:30 PM and continues Friday, December 10th @ 8PM; Saturday, December 11th @ 8PM, and Sunday, December 12th, for a 2:30 matinee. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students, children, and senior citizens. Purchase tickets at the door or reserve tickets by going to www.bunnellstage.org or by calling 203-385-4250.
