Hark! Shakespeare has arisen in Stratford – Alive and Kicking at Bunnell!

Bill Shakespeare’s spirit is turning (and laughing) in his grave, as Bunnell’s Student Theater Arts Guild of Entertainment (S.T.A.G.E.) breathes new life into the modernized comedy, laced with hip-hop dance, belly laughs, fiery fairies, and an underlying love of war between the sexes. This DREAM is a marriage between fantasy and reality. When love does not reign in the reality of Duke Theseus’ Athenian court, a quartet of lovers stumble into the labyrinth of the forest, also a fairy war zone. Hermia, played by senior Kaitlin Pecora, vows to escape her father’s mandate of marriage and runs away with her love, Lysander, played by sophomore, Collin Anderson. “The course of true love never did run smooth,” as Hermia and Lysander are followed into the forest by Helena, played by senior Casey Miko, and Demetrius, Helena’s unrequited love, played by sophomore, Ryne Pataki.

In the meantime, an unlikely cast of actors rehearse a play for the Duke’s nuptial celebration to Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, played by Margaret Reilly. Pyramus and Thisbe will be performed by the pompous Bottom, played by senior Dan Zold, who is transformed into a donkey by Puck, Oberon’s spirit servant, played by senior Eileen Leary. A fairy feud has ensued between Oberon, the Fairy King, played by senior Ryan Marcone, and the Fairy Queen, played by senior Suyee On. Oberon and Titania employ their nymphs and sprites to do their mischief in the forest; lovers fall prey to the juice of flowers pierced by Cupid’s arrow. The dances of love, rejection, power, and desire infiltrate the forest, blurring the worlds of fantasy and reality. Join us for a hilarious, family-friendly romp in the forest.

The Bunnell High School S.T.A.G.E. presentation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a true labor of love. Bunnell High School’s Theater Arts teacher, Meghann England, directs a body of students, wealthy in talent and dedication. She is aided by her Bunnell High School colleagues and benevolent S.T.A.G.E parents, donating their time, energy, and resources to instill excitement and foster success for the future of S.T.A.G.E. John Alusik, S.T.A.G.E.’s masterful Technical Director and Matt Kavulich, Stage Director, have led this project into fruition.

Performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Bunnell High School’s Elden H. Dustin Auditorium are Thursday, December 11th, at 7:30 PM; Friday, December 12th and Saturday, December 13th at 8:00 PM, with a matinee performance on Sunday, December 14th at 2:30 PM.
