Collection Event for Large Bulky Items
Saturday, March 28, 2009
Once again, the Kern County Waste Management Department and Kern Refuse Haulers are joining efforts to help beautify our community by hosting a Bulky Waste Collection Event this Saturday, March 28, 2009. Residents living in the metro Bakersfield area with bulky items to be disposed of can stop by any of the three drop-off locations from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon only, Saturday, March 28, 2009.
Residents in the metro Bakersfield area can bring large HOUSEHOLD ITEMS like appliances and furniture to:
• North High School bus loading zone at the front of school (300 Galaxy Ave.)
• Kern County Fair (East Belle Terrace & South P)
• Kern Medical Center west parking lot (corner of Flower & Mt. Vernon).
One of the goals for this program is to help clean up illegal dump sites. Bulky items, such as appliances, mattresses and furniture make up more than 50% of the waste found at illegal dump sites, Bulky waste collection events are a pro-active method for addressing a major portion of the illegal dumping waste stream.
“I am pleased to say that due to our past success with this program, the Kern Refuse Haulers have decided to continue hosting these events in addition to the Curbside Bulky Waste Collection services offered to residents of the unincorporated Metro-Bakersfield area” said Aurora Rush, Special Projects Manager of the Kern County Waste Management Department. “Residents now have two options to get rid of bulky items: They can call 322-6863 to schedule a curbside pick up at their home for up to two items per month OR bring their bulky waste items to one of the biannual Bulky Waste Collection Events” continued Rush.
The Salvation Army and Goodwill Industries, Inc., have joined in this effort once again and will be available to accept donations of items that remain in fair condition for reuse.
