Building Your Own Faith-Based Survival Kit for the Workplace: Letting God be your Personal Career Coach December 11, 2007

Have you ever wondered if you’re in the correct line of work? Do you feel “called” to your career, or did a series of outside situations land you into it?

Many career transitions start with an assessment of ones skills and likings. However, as Christians each one of us has unique abilities that transcend skills and leverage Gods vocational will for us. Aligning our careers with the guidance of the Ultimate Career Coach will be the topic at the December Catholics@Work breakfast speaker series.

Catholics@Work is proud to announce that Father Michael Sweeney, O.P., President of the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology, (DSPT), will be the featured speaker at the breakfast event on December 11, 2007. In June, 2004 Fr. Sweeney was appointed as the president of the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology (DSPT) at the Graduate theological Union, Berkeley, California. In 1997 he co-founded the Catherine of Siena Institute, whose purpose is to assist parishes to provide a formation for lay men and women for the sake of the mission of the Church to the world. To date, more than 25,000 lay Catholics have attended workshops of the Institute. Fr. Michael Sweeney also teaches Theology of the Laity at DSPT. He says “discerning ones charisms or gifts and calling can change the lives of ordinary Catholics using a unique process I had developed with my associate Sherry Weddell”.


Every Catholic should excel in the work place as our success is a reflection of God’s gifts. God has given each of us a job to do that will be fruitful according to his purposes, and he has given us gifts in order that we may accomplish that work. The process of discovering what work we have been given begins with discerning our gifts, because as we have been called, so we have been gifted.. Tom Loarie, Chairman of the Catholics @ Work Program Committee and recent attendee at one of Fr. Sweeney’s workshops said “As we work with our fellows, understanding each others unique gifts as well as our own is a key to high performance on teams or as managers”.
