The most successful rock ‘n’ roll musical of all time, playing to over 20 million delirious fans, Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story, will be presented at Drury Lane Theatre Water Tower Place, 175 E. Chestnut Street Chicago, IL 60611. Following its sold out run at Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace, the production will preview September 10 and run through November 2. First seen in London’s West End in 1989, Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story, has since toured the world and continues to prove how irresistible Buddy Holly’s songs and style still remain today. Directed by Tammy Mader with Musical Direction and Re-Orchestrations by Malcolm Ruhl, Justin Berkobien will star as Buddy Holly.
Critics and audiences alike have raved about Drury Lane’s electric production, starring Justin Berkobien as “Buddy Holly”. Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune said Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story is “A terrific production! The immensely popular jukebox musical makes even Drury Lane’s chandeliers swing!”. “The production has a Broadway-like presence. The customers fairly leaped to their feet to give the show a standing ovation!” raved Dan Zeff of Copley Papers.
Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story is a rock ‘n’ roll journey through the life of the legendary singer/songwriter Buddy Holly, who shot to stardom in 1957, only to be tragically killed in a plane crash two years later on the day legend says “the music died.” Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story features a score full of over twenty classic toe-tapping tunes from Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens including “Peggy Sue,” “That’ll Be the Day,” “La Bamba” and “Chantilly Lace”. From his first recording contract and move to New York to his fatal tour of Midwest America, Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story explains how, in just three short years, he changed the face of popular music forever.
