The main speaker and esteemed guest, Jhado Rinpoche, will speak on wisdom and compassion and how these two qualities are the key ingredients to creating both inner peace and freedom, as well as peace on earth in our shared world.

Following Rinpoche’s talk, Mr. Pema Wangyal, Regional President of the Tibetan Youth Congress from Orissa , India will give a presentation on political and religious repression in Tibet and the democratic movement amongst Tibetans-in-exile. Chapter 9 of the "Bodhisattva's Way of Life" is a doorway into the most profound teachings of Mahayana Buddhism-the Perfection of Wisdom, the understanding of reality which is the final stepping stone leading to full enlightenment. Shantideva, the author of this text, an eighth century yogi living at Nalanda, is one of the lineage master of the Prasangika Madhyamaka tradition, the highest philosophical school according to the Gelukpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism.

Ascending this Mount Everest of philosophical topics is a challenge to even the seasoned student of Buddhism. However, with a fully qualified guide leading the way, we can be sure of making steady progress on this journey illuminating the path to complete freedom. A commentary on Chapter 9 by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, is available through Wisdom Publications.

Jhado Rinpoche (Tenzin Jungne) was born in 1954 to a nomadic family living in the area of Namtso Lake, 220 kilometers north of Lhasa, Tibet. At the age of three he was recognized and enthroned as the 6th incarnation of the abbot of Jhado Monastery.

After fleeing Tibet in 1959, Rinpoche lived briefly in Nepal and later spent several years in Dalhausie and Dharamsala in North India where he completed his basic studies in Tibetan reading, writing and reciting Buddhist texts. Rinpoche took his vows as a novice monk from His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1964 and his full ordination vows from Kyabje Ling Rinpoche in 1973.

From 1972 until 1990, Rinpoche studied at Sera Je Monastery in South India. In 1991, he attained the degree of Geshe Lha Rampa, the highest level of education in the Geluk tradition. He then went on to continue his studies at Gyuto Tantric College in lower Dharamsala. From 1992 until 1996, Rinpoche served as a teacher at Namgyal Monastery in Dharamsala, the personal monastery of H.H. the Dalai Lama. In 1997, Rinpoche was appointed to the post of Abbot of Namgyal Monastery, and served in that capacity until 2004.

Jhado Rinpoche is one of the most esteemed lamas in the Geluk lineage today. In addition to his excellent education in the Geluk monastic college system, over the years Rinpoche has also received many oral transmissions and empowerments from H.H. the Dalai Lama and his two main tutors Kyabje Ling Rinpoche and Kyabje Triang Rinpoche. He has also received teachings from many great teachers of other traditions including the Nyingma master Trulshik Rinpoche.

Renowned for his keen intelligence and dynamic teaching style, Jhado Rinpoche is also highly acclaimed for his ability to engage western students in ways that are interesting and personally relevant. In addition to these qualities, Rinpoche is also well known and loved for his gentle demeanor and his kindness.
