The Northfield Buddhist Meditation Center will hold its annual Buddha?s Birthday celebration (with potluck) on Sunday, May 7.This holiday, which commemorates the birth of the Buddha approximately 2,500 years ago in India, is celebrated in all Buddhist traditions, and is the biggest holiday of the year for the Northfield Center.The morning begins with an orientation for persons new to Buddhism or to the Northfield Center at 8:30 a.m. A 30-minute meditation period will follow at 9 a.m., followed by a brief walking meditation.The celebration begins at 9:45 a.m. with a talk by Myo-O Habermas-Scher, a priest from Minneapolis ordained in the Japanese Soto Zen tradition. The talk will be followed by a traditional Buddha?s Birthday ritual; everyone is invited to participate.There will also be a presentation by children from the Center?s Children?s Circle and Middle Path programs.A potluck dinner will follow.All interested persons are welcome!
