Brundibar was performed during the Holocaust at Theresienstadt Camp. It was used by the Nazi's as a propaganda tool to show the world how "happy and productive" the detainees of the camps were. The opera's symbolism of the once helpless children overcoming the bully Brundibar was not lost on the audience and yet not viewed as a threat by he Nazis. It is our great honor that Elsa Weinberg, a survivor and one time performer of this opera, will visit Lexington and speak with audiences after the performances.
