José James and DJ Moni
Channeling the voice of Gil Scott Heron, José James brings a fresh voice to jazz with his debut album, The Dreamer. As a potent composer and songwriter, he has adroitly mastered re-interpretations like "Park Bench People," from 90's rap collective, Freestyle Fellowship, as well as his own compositions.
Monica Pineda aka DJ Moni of NYC's all-female Ubiquita DJ crew will spin her own mix of Latin and pan-African rhythms, broken beat, hip hop, funk and house. Moni is resident at NY monthly Brownswood Sessions and has also traveled extensively in Europe and Japan spinning with the likes of Gilles Peterson, Kruder & Dorfmeister and DJ Simbad.
