Brown Bag Lunch & Learn – Crossing the Creek: The Literary Friendship of Zora Neale Hurston and Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings March 16, 2011

A 1942 meeting in St. Augustine sparked a long and complex interracial friendship between Hurston and Rawlings who were both at the height of their literary careers. Associate Professor of English at UCF, Dr. Anna Lillios, examines how their relationship developed against the backdrop of segregation and became one of the 20th century’s most intriguing literary friendships.

Dr. Lillios is the author of the book, "Crossing the Creek: The Literary Friendship of Zora Neale Hurston and Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings." She is also the executive director of the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Society and director the Zora Neale Hurston Electronic Archive. Noon-1 p.m. Free. Space is limited.
