The last concert of the 38th season of the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra will be held on Sunday June 3, 2012 at 3 pm, at the Church of St. Ann and the Holy Trinity in Brooklyn Heights and will feature two beloved symphonic works: Symphony #5 by Jean Sibelius and Antonín Dvorák 's Cello Concerto in b minor with soloist David Cho.
"Sibelius is an astonishing composer and his architecture of sound is particularly suited to our venue," said Nicholas Armstrong, Artistic Director. "with our full musical force, the sublime textures of Sibelius echo to the top rafters of the church. "And we are very happy to work with cellist David Cho again," he added, "in the dramatic Dvorak concerto - a perfect complement to the celestial Sibeliius."
A reception to meet the musicians follows the performances.
Admission to the concert is a suggested contribution of $15. Children are free.
The Church of St. Ann and the Holy Trinity is located at the corner of Clinton and Montague Streets in Brooklyn Heights, next to the Court Street subway station.
The Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra, comprised of talented amateur, semi-professional and professional musicians, is one of the New York area's finest community orchestras.
Founded 38 years ago as the "Brooklyn Heights Orchestra," the group joins under the baton of Artistic Director Nicholas Armstrong to present five symphonic concerts per season of classical, romantic and contemporary music. This concert is made possible, in part, with public funds.
