The William J. Flynn Center for Irish Studies at the University of St. Thomas will host a concert of traditional music from the West of Ireland by the Brock McGuire Band at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, on the University of St. Thomas campus, Cullen Hall, 4001 Mt. Vernon.

The Brock McGuire Band is an award-winning Irish traditional band from County Clare, Ireland. Master musicians Paul Brock, Enda Scahill, Manus McGuire and Denis Carey evoke the atmosphere and artistry of the Irish dance hall era in dazzling fashion with their Irish traditional music from the West of Ireland featuring the melodeon, tenor banjo, fiddle and acoustic piano.
Passion and precision, authenticity and diversity − these are the hallmarks of the Brock McGuire Band in concert. The musicians are steeped in tradition and perform their music with abiding respect and creativity. The band’s repertoire runs wide and deep; their tight, tenacious blend of instruments emphasizes mostly Irish music, but also sprinkles in impressive arrangements of American Old Timey, French-Canadian and other Celtic traditions.
The William J. Flynn Center for Irish Studies Cultural Outreach Program is funded in part by a grant from the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance.
The event is open to the public. Adult admission is $10 at the door; children and students are free.
