There’s music, there’s food, there’s art! On Friday, June 5th and Saturday, June 6th, Broadway will come alive with the sights and sounds of creative excellence. On Broadway, we've taken the traditional ‘art walk’ concept and made it our own. From 10:00 am ‘til 5:30 pm each day, local artists will be partnered with Broadway businesses to create the Broadway Art Encounter. This self-guided art walk takes art out of the gallery and features it in the every day. Photographers and painters, potters and stone carvers will flaunt their talents inside and outside Broadway stores during this colourful two-day event. From the top of the Broadway Bridge all the way to 8th Street, there will be over 50 unique exhibitions of completed work for the public to savour, and several live art demonstrations to enjoy.
The Silent Auction features works from an array of artists. As visitors explore the various pieces, they will also have an opportunity to bid on items -- original works of art and craft that they can display in their office or home. Proceeds generated from the auction will be shared equally between the artist and the Broadway Business Improvement District to help support future cultural events in the District.
Highly-talented musical groups will give visitors yet another taste of local talent during this year’s Broadway Art Encounter. Musical performances can be enjoyed at two separate outdoor locations along Broadway. The front lawn of Oskayak High School at the corner of Broadway and Main is a great place to claim a patch of grass and catch some great entertainment. Alternatively, the Little Stone Stage at the corner of Broadway and 11th Street offers visitors an opportunity to watch performers on stage in a colourful and animated corner of the District.
From emerging artisans to established craftspeople, the Broadway Art Encounter will showcase artists of every age and varying levels of experience, all equally committed to creating extraordinary work.
