'Now the Hell Will Start' is a story that will change everything you thought you knew about the Second World War. Part history, part thriller, Koener's book depicts the harsh and hostile backdrop of the true story of Herman Perry, a budding Romeo from the streets of Washington, DC turned reluctant soldier, who wound up going native in the Indo-Burmese jungle during World War II. Koerner, a contributing editor at Wired, and whose work appears regularly in The New York Times and Slate was named one of Columbia Journalism Review's "Ten Young Writers on the Rise."
