Breathed... Unsaid Film Festival March 13, 2011

This day long mini-film festival celebrates crossings and dismantling of symbolic, nationalistic, cultural, internal, and external borders. The films presented here deal with themes such as the restoration of civility within the criminal justice system, and personal/social recovery after national and man-made disasters.

12:00 (noon) - City of Borders (66 minutes) by director Yun Suh
In the heart of Jerusalem stands an unusual symbol of unity that defies generations of segregation, violence and prejudice: a gay bar called Shushan. City of Borders goes inside this underground sanctuary where people of opposing nationalities, religions and sexual orientations create an island of peace in a land divided by war.

1:15 - Living Condition (excerpt) (6 minutes) by Dee-Hibert-Jones and Nomi Talisman

1: 30 - Crepe Covered Sidewalks (6 minutes) by Renee Wilson
A heart-warming documentary of actress Renee Wilson's return home to the devastation and desolation of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and the effects the aftermath has on her and her family. It is a story of love, loss and rebirth, five years after the storm.

3:00 - The Wall (65 minutes) by Ricardo Martinez
Filmed over two years along the US/Mexico border, The Wall interweaves the lives of vigilante group the minutemen, border towns, a sheriff, and two illegal immigrants. Ricardo Martinez's thought-provoking film explores the complicated world of border policy and immigration.

4:30 - In The Matter of Cha Jung Hee (64 minutes) by Deann Borshay Liem
Her passport said she was Cha Jung Hee. She knew she was not. So began a 40-year deception for a Korean adoptee who came to the United States in 1966. The acclaimed filmmaker Deann Borshay Liem returns to her native Korea to find her "double," the mysterious girl whose place she took in America.
