Where can you go to have a good civilized conversation about interesting topics with people you don't necessarily know and with whom you may not agree?
We would like to invite you to the inaugural gathering of The Social Salon (http://www.thesocialsalon.com). The Salon is an egalitarian oasis of intelligence where New Yorkers can engage with featured speakers and hash out hot-button issues of the day. In the spirit of the Algonquin Round Table, the Salon fills a need in the city's social scene, combining comfortable chat with impassioned debate and the presentation of fresh viewpoints.
The evening begins with our own Round Table, wherein an expert, author, personality or politico, speaks on a topic of interest - to clarify, intrigue, entertain. The floor is then opened for opinions and questions after which participants may delve deeper into the topic of the day or simply enjoy each other's company.
We are excited to present our first speaker, Peter Shankman, CEO of The Geek Factory, a marketing and PR firm and AirTroductions, the Internet's first in-flight dating and networking service. He frequently appears on Fox's "The O'Reilly Factor" and as a guest on many other news channels speaking on PR, marketing, and creativity. He lives in New York with his two psychotic cats, Karma and NASA.
Shankman will address the issues: "Have we lost our creativity as a society? Have we lost our vision as to what matters? Have we lost our ability to think for ourselves?" After all, we live in a world where Anna Nicole Smith and Britney Spears push Iraq off the front page and reality TV has become a poor substitute for the lack of reality in our own lives.
Peter will provide insights into how you can offer yourself up as a catalyst for change, how you can break out of your comfort zone and expand your levels of creativity in all aspects of your life.
Drawing from his experience, Shankman will present anecdotes and information from his book "Can We Do That?! Outrageous PR Stunts and Why Your Company Needs Them." This book chronicles the most ridiculous, outrageous and possibly crazy PR stunts of all time that could inspire you to develop innovative and creative ways to get you or the company you work for noticed.
