This class is geared to exposing you to several facets of Brazilian Culture and cultural elements that differ from your own. Through multi-media and lectures you will be introduced to a country with considerable ethnic complexity, which has its very own de facto cultural entity. The rich history, diverse geography, colorful literature, music and arts, along with other characteristics of Brazil will be examined, and statistically compared to similarities relevant to the United States. With the information and knowledge you receive in this class, you will develop a greater understanding and appreciation for diversity. Students need to be aware that some DVD’s shown in this class may contain adult content similar to that seen on the Discovery Channel. Born and raised in Brazil, Márcio Padilha, was educated in Porto Alegre, the Capital City of Rio Grande do Suz, where he grew up. An avid reader and arts lover, he was a constant attendant of the cultural happenings at Porto Alegre’s Gazômetro, Casa de Cultura Mário Quintana, MARGS and Bom Fim. Marcio came to the United States as a Foreign Exchange Student during the 1988-89 school years. He later settled in Twin Falls but continues to travel throughout the world with many visits to his native Brazil. Get to know Brazil from an instructor with first-hand knowledge and experience. It may be all the inspiration you need to take a trip yourself.
