The Plough & Stars presents The Second Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society Brass Band, Friday, July 28, 10 pm-midnight plus. The Plough & Stars, 912 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, [between Harvard and Central Squares; near the Red Line]. Cover: $5. For information, call (617) 576-0032 or log onto www.ploughandstars.com.
After a take no prisoners night in late March at the Plough & Stars, the 15-piece New Orleans style Second Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society Brass Band returns at full throttle. Praised for its “raucous stomp-your-foot-and-belt-out-the-choruses” (Boston Globe, November 16, 2003), the band is dedicated to slamming out their sound for peace rallies, street festivals, parades, benefits – and great neighborhood pubs.
The band’s motto is “we aim to please if the cause is true and the time is right.” What better cause than to celebrate the comeback of the mighty Plough. This celebration is guaranteed to spill out into the streets, since the seating capacity of the Plough is just a fraction larger than the size of the band. A cozily loud night is guaranteed.
