Brandi Shearer has just released her Amoeba Records debut ‘Close To Dark.’ She will bring songs from the album to the Troubador in Los Angeles on 10/8. ‘Close To Dark’ is by turns languid and lively, an excursion into dreamy worlds simmering with understated sexuality. Produced by Larry Klein (Madeleine Peyroux, Joni Mitchell), the album opens with “Lullabies,” whose ghostly piano figure suggests the bittersweet emotions of nostalgia and regret. After building through the first verse, “Yes, Yes, Yes” comes on full throttle, with insistent guitars and a soaring chorus that showcases Shearer’s powerful vocals. Other standouts include the country waltz “Congratulations,” the loping “Oh, Singer” and the seductive “You’re Mine.”
