What is Bowl For Kids' Sake?
Think of "Bowl For Kids' Sake" as a call to action rather than an event. It is the opportunity to make a difference in the community with just a few hours of your time. Your efforts to raise pledges will help support matches of children to caring volunteers through Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs.
Bowl For Kids' Sake is not just a party, but it is a great way to help local kids while having some fun with friends.
You can bowl with your business, church, school or as a group of family and friends. Every time you secure a pledge you are helping kids who may live right down your street, on your block or in your neighborhood.
How does Big Brothers Big Sisters make a difference in our community?
Compared to their peers, Little Brothers and Sisters who are matched are:
• 46% less likely to initiate drug use
• 27% less likely to start drinking alcohol
• 55% less likely to skip school
The program really works. These are impressive results when you consider the many risks faced by kids in our society. That's why matching caring volunteers to children on our waiting list is so important.
What makes Bowl For Kids' Sake important to Big Brothers Big Sisters?
BBBS of Kansas currently serves 2,600 matches of Big and Little Brothers and Sisters. However, there are approximately 50,000 at-risk children who would benefit from a mentoring relationship. To address this need, we have set a goal to serve 20,000 kids statewide by 2010. Bowl For Kids' Sake will play a key role in achieving this goal because it serves as the single largest source of agency funds and potential volunteers for our mentoring programs.
