The March of Dimes North Louisiana Division is pleased to announce that it will host a bourbon and cigar tasting on Thursday, December 4, 2008, from 6-9pm at Mojo’s in downtown Shreveport at 203 Texas Street. All proceeds from this event will go to the March of Dimes North Louisiana Division to benefit all babies—those born healthy as well as those who need help to survive and thrive.
“This is the first time the March of Dimes has hosted an event like this,” said Kelli Strong, Community Director for the March of Dimes’ Shreveport office, “we are hoping that everyone will join us after work on Thursday for this event. We are going to have a lot of fun and the March of Dimes has a few surprises in store for the attendees.”
In addition to food, fun and cocktails, we will have our unique raffle-style drawing called Fund the Mission. The prize for this event will be two tickets to the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana on Friday, January 2, 2009, as well as an overnight stay to any Ciara Group hotel in New Orleans. We will have 100 numbered cigars available to anyone to purchase for $25. We will draw the winning number at 8:30 pm at the event, and that person will win the Sugar Bowl tickets. The cigars are being provided by Harrison Company of Bossier City. The bourbons for the tasting have been provided by Republic National Distributing Company.
Since this is the first time March of Dimes is hosting this type of event, and we have been unable to come up with a name, we have decided to let the attendees offer suggestions. We will have a table set up with paper and pens and a large fish bowl, and whoever suggests the best name will win a prize from the March of Dimes prize vault.
Tickets are on sale now, and the price is $40 each. All proceeds from this event benefit the March of Dimes Foundation. Tickets and Fund the Mission cigars are 100% tax deductible. If you would like more information, please call Kelli Strong at the March of Dimes office at (318) 869-0400.
One out of every four babies born in North Louisiana is born premature. Prematurity is the number one cause of death for infants less than one year of age in Louisiana. In addition, more than 120,000 babies are born with serious birth defects that can mean a lifetime of disability.
Babies born healthy need a champion, also, to be sure they have access to newborn screening and preventive health care. The March of Dimes is that champion for all babies.
