The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), the nations leading orchestra dedicated exclusively to performing, commissioning, and recording new music of the 21st century, turns its focus to its home town by honoring some of the citys top composers and performers by hosting the 10th annual Boston Connection concert Friday, January 25th @ 8:00pm at Jordan Hall (30 Gainsborough Street). As New England Conservatorys (NEC) affiliate orchestra for new music, BMOP celebrates music by NEC composers past and present, and an NEC soloist chosen by competition. Joined by special guest artists Byron Hitchcock (violin) and BSO principal Richard Svoboda (bassoon), BMOP will perform a range of musical styles: NEC faculty/alumnus Michael Gandolfi Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra (2007); the world premiere of former NEC faculty member Ezra Sims Concert Piece (2005); former Harvard faculty member Leon Kirchner Toccata (1962); the winner of the 2007 BMOP/NEC concerto competition- William Bolcoms Violin Concerto in D (1983); and the world premiere of NEC student composer Osnat Netzers Common Ground (2007), whose score was selected from the 2007 BMOP/NEC competition contest.
