This year's Boston Comedy Finale will celebrate what has made Boston the hub for great comedians.Boston Native, Bill Burr,will receive Boston Comedy Festival's prestigious "Comedian of the Year” Award. The Emerson Alum first gained notoriety for his recurring role on the second season of Chappelle’s Show. Burr has gone on to become a regular performer on “The Late Show with David Letterman” and to have his own HBO half hour Special. Past winners of the comedian of the year award have included Steven Wright, Dennis Leary and Lewis Black.
Legendary Boston Comedian Jonathan Katz will be honored with Boston Comedy Festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Author, Producer, Actor, Comedian, Musician and Emmy Winner, Jonathan Katz is one of the entertainment industry’s most original and versatile creative personalities. Katz co-created and starred in the hit animated series “Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist”, which, during the six seasons it aired on Comedy Central, was credited with branding the network as the home for sophisticated, smartly stupid humor. Past recipients of the award have included Jonathan Winters, Norm Crosby and Robert Klein.
The finale is the most exciting night of comedy in Boston. In addition to the awards, it is also the night when the Boston Comedy Festival Comedy Contest’s top eight comedians from around the world will compete for $10,000 in cash prizes and the chance to be discovered. Boston Comedian and Festival Founder Jim McCue will be hosting the event at Cutler Majestic Theater.
