The Great 1872 Fire that leveled over 60 acres of Boston’s commercial district and nearly destroying the Meeting House, was a truly regional event, as fire companies from throughout the region raced to the scene. Ted Gerber, president of the Boston Fire Historical Society, will discuss how, while offers of relief money came from across the nation, regional units from New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island and Connecticut responded with men, equipment, steamers and engines. FREE for active and retired firefighters and their families (with ID card or union card).
