Marion Carnegie Library is hosting a new book club, which is open to all community members. The club will meet on Wednesday, October 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Anyone may read the selected book, How to Make an American Quilt by Whitney Otto, and participate in the discussion. Members are welcome to bring their lunch to the meeting. The club plans to meet monthly on the third Wednesday. Participants will choose November’s book at the October meeting.
How to Make an American Quilt tells unforgettable stories of the members of a women’s quilting group. The 1991 novel is a multi-generational story that is designed to mirror quilt-making. Each chapter is followed by a short set of quilting instructions that carry a subtext: assemble and stitch a quilt as you would build a life. The characters’ stories are also presented in the context of a changing America, following a rough timeline from World War II to the 1980s.
