This is part of our Outspoken weekend of new performance from Arab artists, curated by Eckhard Thiemann.
A series of presentations and panel discussions with artists and commentators, discussing the challenges and opportunities for Arab dance artists. The debate will start with an overview of recent dance development in North Africa and the Middle East. Individual artists and commentators will speak about notions of aesthetics, training and education of dancers, infrastructures, touring and festivals, and preconceptions at home and abroad. Speakers include Karim Maatoug (Tunisia/France/Italy), who was the coordinator of the annual festival Rencontres Choregraphiques de Carthage in Tunis. Artists include Omar Rajeh, Nacera Belaza, Ahmed Khemis and Salah El Brogy. The debate will also provide an opportunity to see the film Dancing Under Crossfire by Hayder Helo.
Our IDFB Outspoken Weekend is one of the outstanding projects granted the London 2012 Inspire mark, the badge of the London 2012 Inspire programme which recognises exceptional and innovative projects inspired by the 2012 Games. Find out more about the Inspire Mark here.
