Boddy's Big Backyard September 5, 2011

Inspired by the legendary parties that E. Manchester Boddy hosted in the 1930s and '40s, Descanso celebrates Labor Day with music, food and flora. Enjoy the day with garden activities for the whole family: Start the day with a walk through the California Natives Garden with Native Plants Horticulturist Rachel Young at 10 a.m. Meet at the Center Circle. Children and families enjoy the "Teddy Bears' Picnic" story time at the Rose Pavilion at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m., followed by crafts and an enchanting walk in the Gardens. Great for toddlers! Kick out the jams with American rock and bluegrass performed by the Mobile Homeboys at the Under the Oaks Theater at noon. Bring a picnic basket or enjoy gourmet barbecue from Patina on the Main Lawn from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
