Bob Dylan's influence on popular music is incalculable. As a songwriter, he pioneered several different schools of pop songwriting, from confessional singer/songwriter to winding, hallucinatory, stream-of-conscious narratives. As a vocalist, he broke down the notions that in order to perform, a singer had to have a conventionally good voice, thereby redefining the role of vocalist in popular music. As a musician, he sparked several genres of pop music, including electrified folk-rock and country-rock. And that just touches on the tip of his achievements. The Raconteurs are a new side project from The White Stripes' Jack White, featuring Brendan Benson plus Patrick Keeler and Jack Lawrence from The Greenhornes. White's new band will hit the road to support their debut album, 'Broken Boy Soldiers.'
Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello will hit the road for a brief fall tour together, with Amos Lee opening all shows. For Costello, the dates comprise his first solo performances since 1995, having peformed with the Imposters and several duet shows with Steve Nieve. Bob Dylan is the subject of the 51-track, three-disc retrospective 'Dylan,' due in October via Columbia, along with a forthcoming biopic, 'I'm Not There,' directed by Todd Haynes.
