This one-day master class will explore the job of the chairman as leader of the board, and seek to define the principal elements of chairmanship.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
It is now generally accepted that the board of directors is the primary leadership organ of a limited liability company, and that ideally the board should act as a 'council of equals'. But who leads the board, managing its personnel, processes and performance?
This one-day master class will explore the job of the chairman as leader of the board, and seek to define the principal elements of chairmanship.
COURSE OUTLINE:
The master class wil provide an opportunity to compare experiences and to learn from other participants. It will address the job of the chairman as 'player manager' of the board team, and will include such topics as board composition, executive and non-executive director selection, and the use of board committees and task groups. The master class will also consider the job of the board as a whole governing the company as distinct from managing its business, and aspects of director 'boardworthiness'.
AIMS
To provide an open, participative and enjoyable learning experience.
To help individuals gain a general appreciation of the board chairman role.
To help boards get a better understanding of the job of their chairman.
Who should attend?
The master class will be of interest to individuals preparing to take up appointment as board chairman; to those already serving as chairman who wish to review their role; and to those board directors who wish to better understand the chairman's role in order to get the best from their chairman. It will also be of interest to individuals who chair organisations other than limited liability companies.
