The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), the nation’s leading orchestra dedicated exclusively to performing, commissioning, and recording new music, presents the highly anticipated 11th annual Boston ConNECtion concert Saturday, January 17th @ 8:00pm at Jordan Hall (30 Gainsborough Street). As New England Conservatory’s (NEC) affiliate orchestra for new music, BMOP highlights music by both current and former NEC faculty composers, as well as performances by selected BMOP/NEC competition winners. This year’s program includes two world premieres by NEC faculty members: Reflections, a special tribute piece by William Thomas McKinley created in honor of his fellow NEC colleagues; and Concerto for Bass Trombone and Orchestra by Michael Gandolfi featuring NEC alumnus Angel Subero. Other highlights include Peter Maxwell Davies’ Strathclyde Concerto No. 7, featuring Karl Doty, the double bass winner of the 10th annual BMOP/NEC concerto competition, and John Heiss’ Inventions, Contours, and Colors. And, two works by composer/performers: Matti Kovler’s A Jew Among the Indians, selected from the 11th annual BMOP/NEC competition contest; and Kati Agócs’ By the Streams of Babylon for orchestra and two sopranos.
