Smokey’s BBQ , a local restaurant and sports bar with over 30 years of deeply rooted Fort Worth history, will host “Blues & BBQ” a Juneteenth Celebration taking place Saturday, June 20, 2009, from 2-10pm
“Juneteenth is a widely commemorated holiday within the African American community and serves as the beginning of freedom for our ancestors,” said Jim Austin co-owner of Smokey’s BBQ. “This exciting event is a way to recognize our history and culture, while enjoying great bar-b-que, music and entertainment.”
The “Blues & BBQ” Juneteenth Celebration will recognize African American history in a fun and safe atmosphere. Highlights include live entertainment by the “Blues Slobs”; a car show showcasing antique cars and hot rods; horses for petting; pool, domino tournaments, and horseshoes on the patio; and a DJ playing finger snapping and foot stomping tunes all afternoon.
Delectable bar-b-que and thirst quenching beverages will be sold by Smokey’s BBQ. Donations for Circle L-5 Riding Club can be dropped off at Smokey’s during the event. Circle L-5 Riding Club is the oldest African-American riding club in Texas .
“ The ‘Circle L-5 Riding Club’ has been around for 62 years and recently lost a barn, equipment and eight horses in a tragic fire, “ said Austin. “During this time of celebration and reflection, it’s important to give back to an organization that positively affects our community.”
Come out and purchase “the best BBQ on the east side of Ft. Worth” to eat outside on the patio at Smokey’s where the festivities will take place. Take-out orders will also be available.
