L.A. Artcore is pleased new bodies of paintings by Blandine Saint-Oyant and Reneé Amitai at the L.A. Artcore Brewery Annex from July 1 through August 8, 2010.

Blandine Saint-Oyant employs a cut-and-paste aesthetic to her large, abstract works on canvas, and playfully constructs illusions of space from imaginary networks of interlocking architectural, biomorphic and gestural forms. Saint-Oyant’s fascination with painting extends itself through spirited investigations and variations on color, surface texture and finish allowing her creative process to become an inherent subject in her work. Blandine Saint-Oyant studied visual art and art pedagogy at the Sorbonne. She has consistently presented her work in both solo and group exhibitions.

Born in French Morocco, Reneé Amitai studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Paris before gaining professional experience in architecture and design in France, Israel, Texas, and Los Angeles. Amitai’s paintings revolve between the abstract and the representational. Their imagery comes from the artist’s questions and sense of wonder about the universe, the events in harmony and chaos that signify the cycles of life and death that take place in the multitudes of systems around and throughout us. Amitai’s paintings present such questions in the form somewhere between recognizable and unrecognizable. She suggests forest fires or activity on the sun, horizon lines as seen on a plane or from space. Amitai’s capturing of both places in a painting are what Amitai feels is a “universal interpretation of life.”
