While having dinner in a fancy English nightspot with her fiance Scotland Yard Detective Frank Webber, Alice White begins to flirt with an artist seated at the next table and agrees to pose for him with disastrous consequences. Resisting his advances, she ends up murdering him in self-defense. BLACKMAIL was the first feature-length British talkie and was a seminal film in the development of the murder mystery in British film. Considering the technical limitations of its time, the film remains one of Hitchcock’s most impressive productions with his trademark distinctive camera angles supported by remarkable performances.
