Founders of the original Black Lily, Tracey Moore and Mercedes Martinez released their debut as Jazzyfatnastees on the Roots-produced “The Once and Future” on MCA/Motive records in 1999. The duo continues to record and tour with The Roots and other major artists. Seriously injured in a motor accident at age 19, Philadelphia singer Melody Gardot’s musical journey began at the prompting of her physician, who was convinced of music’s ability to improve post-traumatic cognitive recovery. The result was an EP of bedside recordings called “Some Lessons”, showcasing not only a fierce desire to be well but also a reservoir of innate musical gifts recognized by WXPN-FM and CityPaper.
