On January 1, 1863, Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, which made the Civil War a fight to end slavery in the United States. In Kentucky, a state Lincoln had worked hard to keep in the Union, public sentiment quickly turned against the President and his administration. This talk will explore how emancipation impacted Kentucky’s support for Lincoln and the Union war effort.
