Each spring on the upper Texas coast, hundreds of thousands of warblers, songbirds, and shorebirds rest and feed before continuing their migration northward. It’s an exciting time for bird enthusiasts in this world-renowned birding region, with common sightings of painted buntings, rose-breasted grosbeaks, and Baltimore orioles, as well as such year-round residents as the common yellowthroat, the American oystercatcher, and the roseate spoonbill. In this introduction to birding, one of the fastest growing outdoor recreational interests in the country, participants will learn the skills needed for identifying birds as well as the types of birds that can be seen in various areas of the upper Texas Gulf coast.
Five Wednesdays, March 14-April 18, plus two Saturday field trips. For details, registration, and fee information, see the Rice GSCS website.
