Bill King Trio at TD Toronto Jazz Festival at Shops at Don Mills June 28, 2012

For the third consecutive year, the TD Toronto Jazz Festival brings the pre-eminent sound of the city to the prestigious Shops at Don Mills (1090 Don Mills Road at Lawrence Ave. East) in the Town Square for a series of FREE concerts from June 22-July 1. Open air concerts are the epitome of summer and what better place to soak it all in than at the Shops at Don Mills, where fashion, dining and entertainment come outside to play. The Town Square, nestled in the heart of the shopping centre, will provide daily entertainment including Bill King Trio on Thursday, June 28 at 7:00pm.

Pianist-composer-publisher Bill King is a multi-talented keyboardist and composer. Born in Jeffersonville, Indiana in 1946, King started his career performing with local community orchestras and big bands and by the early ‘60’s, he had won 16 first place awards in classical piano and clarinet competitions and a scholarship to Oscar Peterson’s Advanced School of Contemporary music. King has worked with the likes of Linda Ronstadt, Janis Joplin, Martha Reeves, the Pointer Sisters, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Lakeside, John Handy, Sonny Criss, John Klemmer, Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks, all while recording his own music and launching his first independent jazz label Night Passage Records. During the mid-eighties, King began a career as a jazz broadcaster first at Q-107 and
Q-Jazz, created the Jazz Report Radio Network and established an equally rewarding career as a publisher and record company president. King has also been a driving force in the success of the Beaches International Jazz Festival since its inception in 1988.
