The City of Toronto is proud to present Bike Week 2006.
The 17th annual celebration of bicycle culture features events for cyclists of every stripe, from family-friendly group rides to fast-paced racing.
The theme of this year's Bike Week is 'Bike to Work'. Bike to Work was the original message promoted in the first official City of Toronto bicycle event, organized in 1988. While it is important to promote cycling in general, there is a specific need to encourage more bicycle commuting. Promotion needs to begin by changing attitudes, reinforcing that bicycle commuting can be both practical and enjoyable.
Consider hosting a Bike Week event. As always, events of all sizes and scopes will be included in the festivities and Bike Week staff can help with event ideas, promotions, and planning. In past years events have included free breakfasts, organized rides, and cycling-related art exhibitions. We especially encourage individuals and organizations that are located outside of the downtown core to host Bike Week events to ensure that activities are available in all City districts.
