Big Sugar explores the brutal history and modern power of the world's reigning sugar cartels. It reveals how sugar was at the heart of slavery in the West Indies in the 18th century, where Africans were worked to death to build the sugar empire.
It shows the brutal working conditions today for African people on sugar plantations in the Dominican Republic.
While we feast on chocolate, African cane cutters in Haiti are so poor, they are surviving by eating dirt cookies, they are working 12 hour days for $2 a day!
