The team from Big Bottom Market is pleased to welcome Marimar Torres of Marimar Estate Vineyards and Winery. During the event Marimar will feature a selection of her incredible Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, which are grown minutes away from Big Bottom Market. The event is on August 11th 2011 from 6 PM - 8 PM. Marimar Torres has been involved in the wine business all her life. Born in 1945 in Barcelona, Spain, she is fluent in six languages and holds a degree in Business and Economics from the University of Barcelona. She is also a graduate of the Stanford Executive Program, and studied Enology and Viticulture for a year at the University of California in Davis. At Marimar Estate, she directs the activities at the winery and its two vineyards: Don Miguel, named for her late father, in Sonoma County's Russian River/Green Valley; and Dona Margarita, after her mother, in the Sonoma Coast Appellation. Marimar is also a published author and has written two cookbooks The Catalan Country Kitchen and The Spanish Table. In The Catalan Country Kitchen, Marimar provides more than 100 hearty, authentic recipes as well as suggestions for selecting the right wines for many of the dishes. Each of these treats from tapas, paellas and seafood stews to poultry and game dishes and tantalizing desserts is introduced by personal anecdotes that recreate the ambiance of village life and the historic culture of Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia and the site of the 1992 Summer Olympics. A grape glossary and guide to the region's wines are also included. The Spanish Table is a comprehensive cookbook that chronicles Marimar's experiences traveling throughout her native Spain. These experiences gave her the distinct ability to create and include recipes for the book that are distinguished by a subtle but varied range of flavors, aromas, textures, and techniques.
