Four years ago the Elgin Community Network (ECN) and the City of Elgin held several Popcorn and Planning meetings for residents of Elgin. Citizens were asked what would improve the "Quality of Life" in Elgin. The top item mentioned was, bicycle paths. It was clear that in the established sections of Elgin, bike paths or bikeways would have to be on city streets. The ECN set out to develop a bikeway plan for Elgin with a major bikeway in each quadrant of the city. That plan, developed with input from neighbors in each quadrant, was then given to the city for review. They in turn hired consultants, who have experience and expertise in creating bikeways on city streets, to move the plan forward. They have reviewed and revised the plan and are ready to present it to the citizens of Elgin. Questions are welcome.
