BFI London Film Festival: London Loves… (on Trafalgar Square) October 24, 2008

Join us under Nelson's Column as we celebrate our love of the capital in a programme of over 15 rarely seen films (and a couple of old favourites) from across London's film archives and the BFI National Archive.

Moving through familiar sights to the more bizzarre aspects of London life the programme will include The Smallest Car in the Largest City in the World (1913) in which a miniature Cadillac dodges the city's omnibuses while young Hackney residents can be seen enjoying a spot of competitive bun-eating in beautiful colour home movies shot by Lt. James in the early 1950s.

In London's Contrasts (1924) the driver of the capital's last horse drawn bus takes us on a whistle stop tour - from 'the cheerful disorder of the East End' to Knightsbridge and beyond. And Londoners say farewell to the tram in The Elephant Will Never Forget (1953) - John Krish's masterful, tear-jerking portrait of a changing city.
