Reaves Gallery is pleased to present "Better than Beautiful," a solo exhibition of new works by Phillip Dvorak. The exhibition scheduled for July 11th - August 3rd marks Dvorak's first showing with the gallery.
"Better than Beautiful" explores the blurring of boundaries--between man, woman, beast, life and death--and the fantastic possibilities of transformation. This new body of abstract and figurative work expands on the ideas explored in Dvorak's previous collections "Earthquake Weather" and "The Bone Garden." Using strong sexual imagery, these drawings, etchings, and photomontages challenge viewers to consider their own notions of boundaries, desire, and perhaps the idea of beauty itself.
"Our goal is to break through and rethink some of the stereotypes, labels, and traditional definitions of beauty," explains Reaves. "The show encourages us to explore the gap between what we think we see and what's actually there--and allows the viewer the chance to reconcile that dissonance."
An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, July 18th, from 6 to 9 p.m. Dvorak will be present to meet and discuss his work with the public.
Gallery hours are 12 to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 12 to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The gallery is available other times by appointment.
Admission is free and open to the public.
