The Harriman Reservoir is situated in southern Vermont with its northern end in Wilmington, and its southern end at the base of the Harriman Dam in Whitingham.
The trail along the west side of the reservoir follows the roadbed of the former Hoosic Tunnel & Wilmington railroad (nicknamed the Hoot, Toot & Whistle) .
From the Medburyville picnic area on the north end to the picnic area below the dam on the south end the trail is 7.2 miles long.
For the half way walk: a 14.4 mile walk beginning on the southern end, running up to Medburyville and then back to the dam. That half-marathon will begin at 8 a.m.
Or, if interested, there is a one-way walk, starting at the northern end and finishing at the dam, will be more appropriate for families and will begin at 10 a.m.
There will be hamburgers and drinks waiting at the finish for the walkers.
Each entering adult will be asked to have $50 worth of sponsors (five people at $10 each or any other combination) and each child under 12 will be asked to have $10 worth of sponsors .
Parking will be available at the southern end, and those doing the 7.2 mile walk will be bussed to the northern end to start their walk.
The walk will be held rain or shine.
There is a Taste of the Valley Festival at Mount Snow on Sept 12th, making it a nice opportunity for a weekend get away. Local lodges and inns will have special rates available.
