Professor Benny Morris will speak at Congregation Beth Elohim in Park Slope, Brooklyn on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 6:30pm. Professor Morris is widely credited with founding Israel’s New Historians Movement, a school of historiography that seeks to reexamine the founding assumptions of the Jewish state based on documentary evidence and other sources not available in the past. Professor Morris will deliver a talk entitled "1948 and 2008," based on his most recent book, 1948, his most comprehensive treatment of the first Arab-Israeli war to date. The program is open to the public and free of charge. Copies of Professor Morris's book will be on sale at the event.
This program is cosponsored by the Park Slope Jewish Center, Brooklyn Heights Synagogue, Kane Street Synagogue and the Institute for Living Judaism in Brooklyn.
