Composer, pianist & vocalist Ben Folds
Ben Folds came to prominence in 1995 as the leader of North Carolina based trio Ben Folds Five. The group played innovative songs, catchy melodies and soaring
harmonies using a unique piano/bass/drums line up. Fuelled by alternative radio favourites Underground, One Angry Dwarf ... and the band?s Top 40 ballad Brick, their material often fused formidable rock grooves with complex, hook laden productions.
The break-up of this cutting edge band came in March 2001, which led to Folds pursuing a solo career based in Adelaide. He released his solo album at the end of 2001 titled Rockin the Suburbs, which has been described as refl ective, musically engaging and quite magnificent.
Ben Folds has been compared to musical greats Elton John, Billy Joel, and Joe Jackson, while his many fans worldwide love his individual edge and bold infusion of energy and wit. Folds? unique style combines elements of the typical ?singer/songwriter?, jazz and power rock.
He joins the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra to present spectacular orchestral versions of his songs, in what will be a very special concert.
"Ben Folds ? an iconoclastic musician in a world of pop." Reuters News Service.
"Folds? songcraft is a winning mixture of the plush and the prickly, with buff arrangements that echo past pleasures ... gorgeous tunes" ... Rollingstone Magazine.
