Belly dancing at Avant Garden is a truly unique event at one of Houston's most interesting bars.
Mausoleum. Helios. Now Avant Garden. Ask folks around Houston how they feel about this antique Victorian house turned bar and the most common word you'll hear is, well, weird. But don't let that deter you from visiting, because even though the venue is a bit strange, the performances which are held within are well worth the visit, especially Tuesday night's Belly dancers.
With a different troupe dancing every Tuesday, this event could easily become a weekly and relatively inexpensive outing. $5 gets you in the door and two hours of dancing, shows, and classes, and depending on the troupe performing you could be treated to a number of dancing styles ranging from Traditional to Egyptian Cabaret to Tribal Gothic.
Shows take place on the upstairs stage where patrons can gather together to enjoy a variety of beer on tap and almost every cocktail you could imagine. Shows begin at 8pm and run until 10pm with the occasional encore afterwards.
