WHO:
Hannah Tinti grew up in Salem, Massachusetts, and is co-founder and editor-in-chief of One Story magazine. Her first novel, The Good Thief was named a New York Times Notable Book of 2008 and a Washington Post Best Book of 2008 and won the 2008 John Sargent Sr. First Novel Prize. Her short story collection, Animal Crackers, has sold in sixteen countries and was a runner-up for the 2005 PEN/Hemingway award.
Allison Amend is the author of Things That Pass For Love, a debut collection of short fiction published in September 2008. Her work has appeared in several publications, including One Story, The Atlantic Monthly, and Other Voices. She has been awarded residencies at Yaddo, Djerassi, and the Vermont Studio Center, among others. A graduate of Stanford University, she spent a year studying at the Sorbonne in Paris and has taught English in Lyon on a Fulbright Teaching Fellowship.

Behind the Book is a literacy nonprofit working with low-income students in NYC public schools. Our mission is to excite children and young adults about reading. Working in the 1st-12th grades, we bring authors and their books into individual classrooms to build literacy skills and nurture a new generation of book readers.
