WHO:
Elizabeth Nunez- is the author of seven award-winning novels, including Anna In Between, published in September 2009, Bruised Hibiscus, winner of an American Book Award, and Prospero's Daughter, New York Times Book Review Editor’s Choice and 2006 Florida Center for the Literary Arts One Book. Anna In Between received starred reviews from Publisher’s Weekly and Library Journal. Ms. Nunez is co-editor of numerous anthologies and essay collections including Stories from Blue Latitudes: Caribbean Women Writers at Home and Abroad and Black Writers in the 90's. She was a fellow of Yaddo and MacDowell artist colonies. Ms. Nunez has received grant awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities, The Nathan Cummings Foundation, and the Reed Foundation. She currently is provost at Medger Evers College, the City University of New York and executive producer of the 2004 NY Emmy-nominated CUNY TV series Black Writers in America.
Victor LaValle- is the author of the short story collection Slapboxing with Jesus and novels, The Ecstatic and Big Machine. His latest novel, Big Machine has been critically acclaimed by Publisher’s Weekly, The Washington Post, and others. Mr. LaValle received his M.F.A. in Fiction from Columbia University. He is the recipient of numerous awards including a Whiting Writers' Award and a United States Artists Ford Fellowship. He was also a fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. He currently teaches Creative Writing at Columbia University.
