WHO IS BBOY SMERK?

“I hope to be considered one of the “Greats” in breaking and inspire others to follow their passions..”
B.boy Smerk is the epitome of hip hop. His history parallels that of hip hop culture almost as if they are one in the same. Let me paint the picture; born in the Bronx, NY, of Puerto Rican decent, got into trouble as a youth, found the positive outlets of music, art, and dance through hip hop, started experimenting with turntables, created a tag for himself, and began to explode on the breaks as a B.boy. Smerk does not do hip hop, he IS hip hop.
Growing up in a military family, Marc “B.boy Smerk” Cancino moved around quite a bit during grade school. Eventually he moved back to his birthplace in the Bronx, NY, in the late 80’s, when he entered junior high. This is where his career as a hip hop artist began to take shape. After practicing with his homies in parks and on street corners, he began to get noticed by the older cats, the pioneers. Mr. Wiggles was practically like an uncle to him and Crazy Legs began coaching him on the foundation of the B.boy style.
Music and dance weren’t anything new to Smerk, considering he grew up in a Latin family and started DJing with his cousins by the time he was about 12. After being exposed to the world of graffiti from Mr. Wiggles & Fabel, Smerk began expanding his lettering styles to doing full pieces. He was also put down with Rock Steady Crew after battling Crazy Legs in a Zulu park jam. Soon after this he started his own crew, Ready to Rock, which he is very proud of and reps to this day. In the mean time, he was building his reputation and planning to start his own art company, Outlaw Art.
